I know, I'm not doing too hot keeping up with my blog about each week from this summer but I am trying really hard! I will catch up soon, I promise.
But for now, I am just going to update you all on what's been going on in my life recently.
My train ride back from Philly was pretty rough because I was on my first train for almost 5 hours longer than scheduled which almost made me late for my connection train. I was supposed to meet up with Faith in Chicago because that's where she lives and I was going to have five free hours to spend in Chicago but then this train stuff happened. But I did get a lot of reading and sleeping done! I left Philly early Wednesday August 12th and got home late Thursday August 13th and then literally that Friday, I started back at Hy-Vee in my home town. So I didn't really have any time to process or anything since I jumped right back into working. I worked my butt off and spent some time with my family and whatnot for two weeks and then it was back to Maryville to work before classes started.
At The Bridge this past week, Pastor Jason said something that really resonated with me. He said that we shouldn't be in communities that are not growing us, that are not changing us for the better and that scrutinize us but don't do anything to help us. *I am not bashing those organizations, I am just saying that it is not beneficial to me anymore though other people still find it beneficial and that's great* So I decided to leave the organizations that I felt that way with and to pour into the ones that are changing me, that are growing me, and that actively challenge me. So I am getting more involved in my church here, my campus ministry, and I'm even thinking about joining organizations that are related to my new major.
I've been in classes for a little longer than two weeks and so much has changed since being here. I decided that I wanted to do what was going to make me happy and what I felt God was leading me to do and to change the things that were not allowing me to do that. So as a senior, I changed my major. Yes I know. But as a freshman, I screwed myself over because I jacked around so much so with my old major, I would have been here like two and a half more years. Now, I'm going to graduate in 3 semesters with a major that I absolutely love. I am now going to graduate with a Human Services degree.
This semester, I am focused on doing well in my new major, strengthening my relationship with God, learning what He wants for me in my life, beginning to process this amazing past summer I had, connecting with people I love, pouring into the relationships that I know will last a long time, and as everyone from this summer knows I love to do, CHOOSING JOY.
I hope you all decide to stick around and keep up with me. I will hopefully have the rest of my summer blogs up before the end of the month and after that, I will just be sharing what God's been teaching me lately.
Peace, Love, and Jesus,
Saundra
